Ethan Pines
Picture this: He rolls up to the shoot on a vintage Triumph, his gorgeous hair perfectly shabby-chic from the wind and the morning’s surfing. Without a word he parts from his supermodel girlfriend, presses the shutter a few times and rides off to cash his check.
This is not Ethan.
Ethan is more Monty Python than Harley-Davidson. Growing up in Los Angeles, he developed his masochistic work ethic shoveling horse manure on a small ranch where pets died and local kids got injured. He developed his humor and storytelling in college (U. Penn, English), in graduate school (Columbia, journalism) and working as a copywriter in New York.
Tired of being on the computer all the time, he returned to L.A. in 1999 and took up photography. Now he is on the computer all the time.
When you bring Ethan on board, you get a one-of-a-kind package: a quirky guy with a unique voice who brings ideas to every shoot. With irony and irreverence, spontaneity and spirit and soul, a fresh perspective and a conceptual approach, he seeks to take every job to the next level.
His images have been honored in Communication Arts, American Photography, Applied Arts, the International Photography Awards and American Photo’s Images of the Year. In 2016 the Smithsonian chose his portrait of Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang for a permanent installation. He is an Eagle Scout and a Nitrox-certified scuba diver. He lives in the mountains above Malibu with deer, rattlesnakes, his wife and a bunch of weeds.
